SALT + EARTH: Festival of Landscape, Seascape & The Environment will return from Friday 8 to Sunday 10 September 2023.
Building on last years expanded format, we are so delighted to continue our collaboration with Creative Folkestone and Kent Downs AONB as we dig deeper into the ways we connect with the environments that surround us, while engaging with the urgency of the climate crisis and connecting with the communities that live in and around the Kent Downs. SALT + EARTH 2023 presents a weekend of artworks, workshops, food and film gatherings, walks, talks and so much more.
The selected artists, creatives and collectives, and the diverse nature of their work are brilliant indicators of the different ways each of us encounter, are affected by and respond to our natural environment. Expect events, exhibitions, gatherings and performances that explore everything from geography to geology, ancestral and ancient crafts to diasporic and contemporary experiences, and the monumental dis/connections between humans and nature.
SALT + EARTH 2023 invites everyone to engage with the Kent Downs in different ways than before, and aims to inspire a renewed way of experiencing the wonderful and immensely important environment that surrounds us.
Keep your eyes peeled on this space, and follow our socials as we continue to reveal more information and insights about the festival, and its artists - and how you can be a part of it all.
SALT Festival began in 2016. Based in Folkestone, the festival’s aim was to inspire and connect people to the coastal landscape and urgent issues of climate change. Previous editions of the festival have included activities and events such as communal sea swims, boat building, rewilding projects, live performances and much more. The expanded festival will now look beyond the coast to the wild and rural parts of Kent and northern France. SALT + EARTH is an ambitious festival that now aims to raise awareness of the climate emergency and UNESCO geopark bid.
SALT + EARTH is co-curated by Creative Folkestone, Folkestone Fringe, and Kent Downs AONB.
