CAO is the solo project of Constanza Nunez-Melgar also known as Constanza Bizraelli, mysterious Peruvian electronic music composer, producer and thinker currently based in Amsterdam. Her mutant textured sound is inspired by many different influences ranging from glitch-ethnic electronics, black metal, industrial, dungeon techno and Latinamerican folk music. She often describes her style as “blackened amazonic electronics” being considerably inspired by Peruvian pre-hispanic cosmovisions and folklore.

Past shows include Berghain in Berlin, Red light Radio in Amsterdam, Rewire Festival in Den Haag, DJ sets at the Tate Modern (London) with NTS Radio, Evo Festival (Italy), Helicotrema Festival (Italy), Red Bull Music Academy (Montreal), Integraciones Festival (Peru), Sonar Reykjavik in Iceland among others. She has also performed extensively in London's underground electronic scene.

CAO was included in Remezcla’s 2016 top 10 most promising electronic artists and was a participant of 2016 Red Bull Music Academy in Montreal.

As an academic, she is the director and editor-in-chief of Cyclops, a journal of contemporary theory, theory of religion and experimental theory (www.cyclopsjournal.net). She is also currently part of Hexadome exhibition, a project carried out by The Institute for Sound and Music in Berlin, where she premiered a collaboration with visual artist Michael Tan, a sound spatialization, 360 audiovisual performance that was premiered in Berlin the 20th of April and which will go on an international tour during 2018. The exhibition featured works by other artists like Brian Eno, Thom Yorke, Tarik Barri and more.

“The name Cao is originally from a place in Peru, the archeological site of the pyramids of Cao, home of an ancestral civilisation where they recently unearthed the mummy of a young empress-priestess"CAO is Constanza Bizraelli (Lima, PE) currently based in London. A background of black metal and crust punk forms an aesthetic base for her caustic electronic music and over this are laid melting veils of techno- psych and minimal synth riffing. 'Marginal Virgin' indulges ideas of subterranean myth, the storage of erased information beneath our feet and the reasons why it all rots down there.” - Opal Tapes, UK, 2016

“A 2015 essay by Cao is titled “The Ruin and the Sonic Sacred” and reads as a philosophical parsing and repositioning of noise music. The music released under this project could be considered ruinous, yet sacred – and definitely falls under the nebulous umbrella of noise. The creative answer to the Peruvian artist’s academic flights pairs the pastoral with the haunted, desperate discord with fragile layering. These divisive contradictions usually flesh out in tracks better described as release- length excursions –see her early 2016 release Marginal Virgin on Opal Tapes. Using a library of sounds including tribal fare from Cao’s native country and glitched-out, static-laden electronica from the UK, where she now resides, what results is a mixture that’s rightfully intelligent and left-of-center.”- Resident Advisor, Show Review, ISM Hexadome
