Skate, Cycle, Youth Market and Music Day

Event: Skate, Cycle, Youth & Music Day
Location: Guildhall Street
Timings: 3pm - 7pm

FOLKE ABOUT TOWN is a series of test events bringing new markets, music, family activities and more, into the heart of the town centre. Commissioned by Folkestone & Hythe District Council and developed in partnership with local businesses and the local community these events are designed to breathe new life and vibrancy into the High Street.

For our next edition, we bring you The Garden, where we have taken the inspiration from the lively community of skaters, cyclists, musicians and gamers and young people from our seaside town. It is hot on the heels of a successful first event, the Folkestone Food Festival that took place on the 2nd - 4th August.

We have an action packed afternoon,  so head down and join us on Guildhall Street.

  • Teenage Market - a space for after school socialising. Get creative and make new friends with workshops, stalls and local music from your peers.

  • Scorcha Skate School - providing two free sessions on a halfpipe for aspiring skaters. These will be beginner-friendly, so don’t be afraid to try some tricks for the very first time! The sessions will run at 4pm and 5pm for 45 minutes and skateboards can be brought along or borrowed.

  • Chaos Cards - giving everyone the chance to ‘Connect4’ the afternoon, with a selection of outdoor and tabletop games. There will also be a free Pokémon-themed workshop for 6-12 yr olds, with a guest appearance from Pikachu.

  • Cycling UK - free appointments available at the ‘Dr Bike’ clinic. Services include free minor repairs, safety checks and maintenance advice. For DIY advice, tune in to mini maintenance demonstrations in puncture repairs, brake and gear adjustments and fitting a cycle helmet. For those who enjoy a tour de Folkestone, local cyclists will be available to advise on route planning, club information and leisure cycling advice. And Cycling UK staff will be around to let you know how you can get involved in funded community projects, membership and campaigns.

  • Happy Skate - bring a tote bag down for a Totes Amazeballs screen printing session and customise your tote. (Some surplus stock will be available but this is limited).

  • The Photocopy Club - The Photocopy Club 'IN TRANSIT' is a traveling gallery, zine library and workshop space that works to bring the power of zines into your hands.
