Tree-iennial Community Project - @Draw A Bit Sew A Bit

This installation brings a little happiness, colours and a sense of togetherness to this part of town.

#Installation

Date: Monday 1 September - Sunday 19 October
Opening Times: 24/7
Location: Guildhall Street, Folkestone CT20

This project is a collaboration with several groups such as Treat Me Right, The Folkestone Poppy Project, several members of Folkestone Ladies Social Club and Meet Up. The generous wool donations from participants enabled this undertaking to take place.

Participants express their ideas, creating work which challenges perceptions and sometimes exceeds expectations, as well as promoting understanding and making lasting connections between people. This powerful art experience can support them to think differently and instigate change in their lives.

Marie-Hélène Hunter is a textile artist based in Folkestone since 2018. Over the last few years, she has concentrated on drawing with threads on vintage handkerchiefs, trying to translate emotions and memories into simple lines. She initiated and managed the “ Tree-iennial” community project involving several groups from Folkestone such as:

© Treat Me Right CIC - Preventing domestic abuse through innovative, creative support that puts economic empowerment, safety and wellbeing at the heart.
Out and About with Friends Social Group, which gives the opportunity to meet new people and remain active.

Folkestone Ladies Social Club, connecting the community for healthy wellbeing and mental health.

The Folkestone Poppy Project is a community-driven project focusing on maintaining poppies on the Leas with a strong emphasis on WW1 victims and chat, laugh, share skills, drink tea, sip coffee, eat cake, and make new friends.
