Tired of the wait of it all? From queuing in the supermarket to the rise and fall of civilisations, our lives are defined by waits long and short — but we all know that waiting can keep us tired, make us anxious and create a feeling of stuckness.
That’s where The Waiting Gym comes in: our state-of-the-art Wait Training environment helps you condition your mind, body and spirit for the challenge of waiting it out. With expertly-designed equipment, games and challenges, The Waiting Gym invites you to limber up and get ready to wait it out. How far are you willing to go to achieve waitlessness? #TeamWaiting
The Waiting Gym was commissioned by and developed in partnership with Mata Argaw, Ibrahim Ahmadzai, Djafarou Djibo, Grmalem Gontse Kasa, Dania Khaled and Obaida Sharkia, creative producers at The Studio, a co-design studio centring young people with first-hand experience of navigating the UK asylum system. This is The Studio’s third public artwork in Folkestone, following 2024’s billboard ‘Travel Deep’ in Payers Park, and climbable poem ‘Holding On’ at F51. This year, The Waiting Gym is presented as a co-commission with Folkestone Fringe.
The Studio is a long-term project developed by People United and Kent Refugee Action Network (KRAN). It is supported by Arts Council England, The Paul Hamlyn Foundation, The Rayne Foundation, Lawson Endowment for Kent and The People’s Postcode Lottery.
