Hop Projects | The Mystery of Lady in Red | 8-11pm Daily

until 1 May 2020

During the lockdown, HOP Projects continues to produce and showcase art that can be viewed from the street. As part of Folkestone’s Last Fridays, we will use our window to showcase a work-in-progress multi-media installation by Hio.

From Macau (China), Hio works primarily with moving-image and sculpture, who has been in Folkestone for the past month to create a new mockumentary called 'The Mystery of The Lady in Red’, exploring the sense of disorientation experienced when she tries to relocate through personal history, the cultural heritage of her ethnicity, and gender in the UK.

An online version of the installation will be available via: https://bit.ly/3eJCumy from 8pm this evening.

Drawing upon post-colonial theories, the work explores the sense of disorientation experienced when she tries to relocate through personal history, the cultural heritage of her ethnicity, and gender in the UK. Foreign, Asian, Chinese, and female, the image of the ‘Lady in Red’ manifests a resistance to the pre-conceived and stereotyped identities, and the moving image work narrates the myths surrounding self-concealment and self-discovery. The work-in-progress installation has been created in response to the COVID-19 pandemic with the implementation of social distancing.

Find at 73 Tontine Street, CT201JR.
