The Magic cabinet is a commentary on rituals, beliefs and techniques that people use to keep themselves safe. Objects and ideas are used as talismans and as protection devices.
What is real and what is not?
The Magic Cabinet will be installed throughout the triennial in The Nook’s doorway cabinet.
Katy Murray (nee Phillips)
Abstract ceramic vessels and installations
Katy has been working in Ceramics for over 20 years after completing a BA Hons in Ceramics at Camberwell College of Arts and Crafts. Clay coupled with her disabilities have inspired her to produce objects that explore function and dysfunction, disability and difference, use, disuse and re-use, recycling, and reinvention. Pieces are inspired by external and internal landscapes and shapes are a product of this, with surfaces that celebrate light and colour. Katy creates tactile objects using subverted traditional making techniques. Katy slip-casts and alters and slab-builds her ceramic sculptures and vessels producing limited runs and one-off pieces and firing her work in her studio at The Stables.
