This summer, Turner Schools proudly presents STRIDE—a major animated artwork and joyful, collective march of over 3,000 pupils and staff from five Folkestone schools. Created to coincide with Creative Folkestone Triennial 2025, STRIDE also features in this year’s Folkestone Fringe Festival: Flint + Clay, running from 1 September to 19 October.

Each of the 3,000 animation frames has been hand-decorated by a pupil or staff member from Folkestone Academy, Turner Free School, Folkestone Primary, Morehall Primary, or Martello Primary. When sequenced together, these individual artworks form a continuous walking cycle—a powerful symbol of unity, identity, and shared momentum.

STRIDE premiered on Thursday 17 July 2025 at The Goods Yard, Folkestone Harbour Arm and from October, the animation will be screened before selected films at Silver Screen Cinema.

The project is led by Michelle Foxwood, Director of Creative Arts at Turner Schools, in creative partnership with artist and animator Toby-Melville Brown. As Turner Schools’ flagship contribution to this year’s Triennial, STRIDE represents a bold artistic statement from the heart of Folkestone’s education community.
