“Who said that?” is one answer to the psychiatrist’s favourite question, do you hear voices? Joan of Arc not only heard them but acted on them. Apparently a large proportion of people do hear internal voices with no psychiatric problems whatsoever. Whether we view them as our own inner voice, or outside agencies, this is a forum for interested parties to debate the politics of faith and voice hearing.
The session will begin with the screening of the short film Hearing Voices by local film-maker Dominic Pillai. The film has an immersive soundscape that aims to create a hearing voices experience. The work was commissioned by Folkestone and District Mind in partnership with ARRCC Folkestone to reduce stigma and create a better understanding of this condition.
