Join Melanie Wrigley from White Cliffs Countryside Partnership for a walk down onto Folkestone Warren beach to search amongst the pebbles washed out of the clay by the sea.

Search for fossil ammonites, belemnites, bivalves, and even and occasional crab or tooth! Hear about the rocks, minerals and fossils and geology processes of our fantastic Warren and how the Dover Straits were formed. The Warren is largest landslip site in Europe!

Melanie Wrigley has worked for the White Cliffs Countryside Partnership managing the precious chalk grasslands around the Dover and Folkestone area for 30 years. Mel has a strong interest in the plants, animals, geology and landscape of the chalk and Channel area having a particular interest in the formation of the English Channel through the Megaflood.

Meet on Jock’s Pitch, the green lawn area above The Warren, near the Bowls Club, Wear Bay Road, Opposite the end of Foreland Avenue. The walk is suitable for all ages and will last 2.5 to 3 hours and is Grade 5 – rocky beach with some slopes and scrambling.
