With music that zeroes in on personal emotions and the minutiae of everyday life - voicemails, haptics, environmental recordings, stopwatches, whispers and conversations - exploding their significance, we welcome San Antonio-based, claire rousay, to the Profound Sound stage.

rousay has released music on a range of labels, most notably Astral Spirits, Second Editions, Longform Editions and American Dreams, who in 2021 released a softer focus, a collaboration with visual artist Dani Toral. rousay’s music has received acclaim from NPR, which writes that rousay “enchants the ordinary,” and Pitchfork, which calls her music “quietly devastating.”

rousay has presented music at venues like Issue Project Room, Casa Del Lago (CDMX) and Salon De Normandy (Paris), among many others, held residencies at Rhizome DC and Elastic Arts Exposure Series, and performed with musicians such as Ken Vandermark, Ingebrigt Haker-Flaten, Jacob Wick, and Tom Carter.

"From Claire Rousay, Field Recordings for a Modern World" ~ New York Times, Jenn Pelley

claire rousay is one of the most revelatory young artists to recently emerge from America. Flipping her tools between domestic musique concrete, voice recordings, percussion and multi-instrumentalism, claire has already amassed a wide array of both solo and collaborative works exploring human relationships and self perception.

Texas musicians and real-life “bffs” mari maurice and claire rousay work in the same room for the first time. More than a cool biographical detail, this fact defines the album’s lovingly meta style. ~ Pitchfork, Daniel Bromfield

"The "emo ambient" musician presents a 24-minute track."
~ RA Review

"As a percussionist turned sound artist, the San Antonio-based musician has put out a whopping 19 releases since 2019, many featuring dizzying noise and free jazz that demonstrate her focus on live performance." ~ Pitchfork, Rob Arcand

"A snowdrift of long, languorous organ notes. Whistling tones, like swallows arcing through the sky. A rustle of foley. There’s crackling, crinkling – it’s hard to tell exactly what is going on, but there’s a sense of activity, things happening – real things, somewhere in a real place. A flicker of light. Then the whole edifice collapses suddenly, like the air has been sucked out." ~ Quietus, Robert Barry
