Call to the Channel - Judith Anketell and Clare Unsworth

A video meditation in spoken word and natural sound reimagining the English Channel

#Screening

Date: Saturday 27 September - Sunday 19 October
Opening Times: 10.30 - 16.00

Location: Folkestone's Fishing Heritage and History Museum, 2 Radnor Street, CT19 6AQ

Call to the Channel evolved from a commission by Kent Downs National Landscape for the SALT + EARTH Festival 2022.

Judith Anketell led an Artists’ Research Workshop to re-envision human-centric perceptions of the English Channel — moving from the Channel as a resource to the Channel as an elemental entity connected to the global Ocean.
The participating artists wrote, read, and recorded two-minute reflections. Their words and voices are woven into the Call to the Channel film, a collaboration between Judith Anketell and Clare Unsworth.

Seabed reflections — Mahal de Man
Tidal currents and immersions — Sara Trillo
Sea edges and coccolithophores — Kim Plowright
Microbes and sound pollution — Judith Anketell
Philosophy and lexiconography — Josie Carter
French/English reverie — Elodie Merland
Natural sound research and recording — Craig Gell

The film invites gentle shifts in how we perceive and listen to the natural world.
