Join us for a screening of STEVE, a film by Ben Akers. The award-winning film that is saving men’s lives. Suicide is the biggest killer of men under 45 in the UK. 12 men a day. 1 every 2 hours. One of those men was Steve Yates. But Steve was more than a number; he was a father, a son, a brother, and a friend. Director Ben Akers’ childhood best friend. In this documentary, Ben goes on a mission to look at why this is happening. Ultimately, this is a film of hope, trying to push us all on from Mental Health Awareness to Mental Health Action.

Following the screening, men can join Ben, with James and Oliver, Folkestone's Talk Club captains to discuss the film as well as Folkestone's Talk Club - a weekly meet up for men to build mental fitness.

Normal? Festival of the Brain is co-curated by Living Words, Creative Folkestone & Folkestone Fringe. Living Words is an arts & literature charity organisation working with those with a dementia as well as those from isolated backgrounds. Creative Folkestone, is an arts charity dedicated to transforming Folkestone through collective creative activity. We do these festivals to enrich the cultural calendar of our town, bring people together, and connect Folkestone with the wider world. Each year, the Normal? programme and themes are always produced through think-ins, in which anyone is invited to share ideas of what interests them, and what they would like to see happen together.
