This Saturday (Feb 1st) at Folkestone Museum, the unveiling of the photograph that recreated Folkestone's most famous painting (n.b.that's not the real one above!) will take place!
On a sunny day last October, 300 people gathered at Folkestone Harbour Arm to recreate a 100-year-old painting that celebrates the warm welcome given to 100,000 Belgian refugees when they arrived in Folkestone in WW1. The as yet unseen photograph taken of this event will also be going on display in Folkestone Museum. There will be a short film showing the making of 'The Landing of the Belgian Refugees Revisited' on the day.
If you were or was not one of the 300 people in the recreation, come and join us for this historic moment- kicking off at 2pm.
The Mayor of Folkestone, the Curator of Folkestone Museum Darran Cowd, the Project Organiser Audrey Green Oakes and the Photographer Manuel Vason will be there and there will be a short film showing the making of 'The Landing of the Belgian Refugees Revisited.'
The original portrait & photograph are now displayed in the Folkestone Museum, 1-2 Guildhall St, Folkestone CT20 1DY.
