LIGHTHOUSE RELAY TRANSMISSION NO. 7
Giuseppe Gavazza | Sad Seagulls
Listening to my relay exchange by Sarah Neilson, the scraping samples, the former lighthouse keeper, Dave's recorded voice, immediately reminded me of an old vinyl record by il Conte Federico Monti Arduini, whose art name was Il Guardiano del Faro (The Lighthouse Keeper). It was called Il Gabbiano Infelice (The Sad Seagull). It was the first commercial piece played on a synthesizer (the glorious Moog) and the first piece of electronic music I had in my home. Only later did I discover the melody of Il Gabbiano Infelice was Amazing Grace.
For this new recording, I simply overlaid Sarah's full sample, 3 (out of 4) of the phrases of the original recording of Il Gabbiano Infelice with Dave's recorded voice. I mixed the levels at 45 r.p.m. with Sarah scratching sounds and filtered the spoken voice of Dave.
